Blazers Take Fifth at 2006 UAB Fall Beach Blast

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The UAB women's golf team finished fifth at the first annual UAB Fall Beach Blast at The Peninsula Golf Course in Gulf Shores, Ala. Birmingham-Southern took home the team title with a two-day score of 598. Jill Stupiansky of BSC garnered the individual championship with a total of 147 over the two rounds.
Mercer ended in second with a score of 648, while Marshall finished third with a total of 650 and Southern Miss completed the tournament in fourth, shooting a 672.
"This was the first year for this event and it turned out really well," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "We are going to make this an annual tournament. It was a great field and The Peninsula provided great accommodations for us."
Senior Jennifer Head and freshman Carolyn Cochran led the Blazers during the tournament, both posting two-day totals of 168. Senior Martha Hudson finished with a combined score of 173, while sophomores Alyson Mitchell and Christina Wentworth tallied scores of 175 and 188 respectively.
The UAB Fall Beach Blast was the Blazers' final tournament of the fall season. UAB will resume play in the spring.
