BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team will travel to Johnson City, Tenn. over the weekend to compete in the fourth annual Niswonger Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State. The Niswonger Invitational marks the third event UAB has competed in this season. The meet begins at 11 a.m. Friday morning and runs until seven o'clock Saturday evening.
"ETSU has traditionally been a very good meet for us," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "We will run some of the girls in different events, all in an effort to get prepared for the conference championships."
UAB is hoping to have another strong performance after last week's Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., where the Blazers broke a school record and had numerous top-three finishes. UAB welcomes another opportunity to continue to build upon its earlier performances.
The meet will showcase some of the world's top collegiate, post collegiate, and professional athletes. Over 600 athletes from 33 institutions will compete in the two-day event. Athletes from the University of Virginia and perennial track power Tennessee will be in action, as well as 24 UAB athletes.
This year's meet features the following six elite invitational events: women's and men's 3000 meter, women's and men's 60 meter dash, and women's and men's 60 meter hurdles.
Results from each day will be posted online at www.flashresults.com/etsu/ or on UABsports.com.
