UAB Sends Nine To NCAA Mideast Regional Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team sends nine athletes in seven events to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Bloomington, Ind., on Friday and Saturday.
The Blazers qualified to compete in five individual events and two relays at the regionals. In 2004, UAB only qualified one individual competitor and one relay team.
Freshman Whitney Mays will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Saturday at 7 p.m. Mays finished third in the event at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships on May 13 and earned all-conference honors.
Freshman Tara Colvin will compete in the 400-meter dash preliminaries Friday at 5:45 p.m. and sophomores Stephanie McCauley and and Oriana Carter will run in the 100-meter dash preliminaries at 6 p.m. Senior Adrienne Duke will compete in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Sophomore Erin Harris will compete in the triple jump on Saturday at 6:10 p.m.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Carter, McCauley, freshman Erika Russ and Harris will run in the preliminaries on Friday at 4 p.m. The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Shauntel Jennings, Duke, senior Elace Minnifield and Colvin will compete on Saturday at 8 p.m.
