Stanfield Signs Three For Track Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB head track and field coach Ray Stanfield has announced the the signing of three outstanding prospects for the 2006 season. Anna Fearon of Cumming, Ga., and Abby Speights and Jakia Williams, both from Ruston, La., signed letters of intent with the Blazers.
"I'm really glad to get all of these girls," said Ray Stanfield. "They will all be strong additions to our team for next season. We've really improved our team in the special events area, and I think we're going to have some of the strongest distance runners in the conference next year."
Fearon, a pole vaulter from South Forsyth High School, is a three-time state meet qualifier and was the state runner-up in the pole vault in 2004.
Speights attends Ruston High School, where she took second place in the mile run at the 2004 Louisiana Outdoor Championships. She also took third in the state cross country championships and fifth at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Speights was also a part of the 2005 indoor state champion 4x800-meter relay team.
Williams also attends Ruston High School and also is a distance runner. Williams is the 2005 state indoor champion in the mile run and was also a part of the state champion 4x800-meter relay team. Williams finished second at the state cross country championships and third at the Chile Pepper Invitational.
