BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team heads back to Clemson, S.C., for the Clemson Relays on March 25-26 hosted by Clemson University at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex. This marks the third time in 2005 the Blazers will compete at Clemson, as a few competed in the Clemson Pentathlon on Jan. 28 and then the full squad returned later for the Tiger Invitational on Feb. 12, both during the indoor season.
"The Clemson Relays are one of the southeast's most historic meets," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "We are excited about going and competing against some different schools from that area of the United States. We will run Elizabeth Ambrus in the 5000 meters, and Stephanie McCauley and Oriana Carter will run their first 100-meter dash of the season."
Ambrus currently holds the UAB indoor record in the 5,000-meter run, which she set at the Conference USA Indoor Championships this year when she took first in the event.
UAB is coming off an impressive performance at the Alabama Relays, March 17-20 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Blazers took first place in the meet, beating defending champion and host, the University of Alabama by two points. The Blazers had three NCAA regional qualifying performances at the Alabama Relays and a total of 21 top-10 finishes on the weekend.
The Blazers will be competing against athletes from Albany State, Anderson, Berry, Furman, Georgia, Iona, Kennesaw State, Mars Hill, Methodist, Middle Tennessee State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Winthrop and host Clemson.
The Clemson Relays begin on Friday afternoon with the final field and running events scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m. On Saturday, Ambrus will compete in the first event of the day when she competes in the 5000-meter run at 10 a.m. Saturday's final event is scheduled to start at 5:40 p.m.
