SOUTH BEND, Ind. ---- UAB had another historic showing here this weekend as the Blazers continued the 2005 indoor track and field season at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The Blazers broke five school records, three freshman records and had nine top-ten finishes on Friday and Saturday.
"We had a great meet and I hate to keep saying that, but we just keep getting better and better," said head coach Ray Stanfield. "We broke five school records this weekend. The sprinters ran well, we had three make it to the finals in the 60-meter dash. You come to meets like this, with the greatest athletes in the NCAA, and hope to perform well, which we did. There was so much history made and it was just great to be a part of that."
Tara Colvin set a new UAB and freshman record in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 56.58. Sophomore Genoah Collins set a new school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.22 and sophomore Elizabeth Ambrus ran a 9:43.45 in the 3000-meter run, which is a new UAB record as well. The 4x400-meter relay team finished first in its section and fifth overall with a school record time of 3:47.21. Stacey Adewakun set a new UAB freshman record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.82. Additionally, the distance medley relay team set a school record with a time of 11:53.12 and freshman Elizabeth Hilligoss set a new UAB freshman record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:59.11 on Friday.
