Baseball Holds Fifth Annual Leadoff Banquet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB baseball team hosted its fifth annual leadoff banquet Friday evening at The Club in downtown Birmingham. Coaches, players, athletic department staff, family members and others gathered for a reception and dinner to look ahead to the upcoming 2005 baseball season.
Speakers during the evening included WJOX's Matt Coulter, UAB Assistant Athletic Director Chad Jackson, Dugout Club President Dr. W. Joe Benjamin, UAB head coach Larry Giangrosso, and assistant coaches Frank Walton and Nick Dumas.
Over 200 people attended the event where Giangrosso and the Blazer coaching staff introduced the players, analyzed the team's schedule and discussed the goals for the season ahead.
UAB takes the field on Friday, Feb. 18 when it begins the season by hosting Central Michigan at 6 p.m. at Young Memorial Field.
