BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Demario Eddins scored a season-high 25 points and Donell Taylor added 17 to lead UAB to an 87-58 victory over Tulane Saturday night.
Eddins became the 16th player in UAB history to reach 1,000 career points.
Derrick Broom added 10 points for UAB (18-9, 8-6 CUSA), which won its second game in a row after losing four straight.
"This win was more like it," UAB head coach Mike Anderson said. "This is the way that we want to play and we did a good job, especially at home. I think that this was one of those games where we really came in and put on a show. As we were winning by like 25 or 30 points, I looked up into the stands and not one person was leaving. I think that shows what great fans we have and this was a big win for us."
Quincy Davis scored 13 points and Marcus Kinzer added 10 for Tulane (9-16, 3-11). Tulane had won four of it's past five games with UAB, but the Green Wave could not keep up with the Blazers this time.
The game was close for much of the first half, but the Blazers pulled out to a 36-27 halftime lead and blew the game open early in the second half.
UAB started the second half with a 19-5 run to build a 55-32 lead. Tulane could get no closer than 20 points the rest of the way and the Blazers led by as many as 36 points down the stretch.
UAB's pressure defense forced 29 Tulane turnovers.
Eddins now has 1,005 points in 93 career contests. The Chicago, Ill., product stands 105 points behind Robert Shannon (1992-94) who is 15th all-time with 1,110 career points.
"For (Demario) to join all of those prestigious players, it just shows what kind of a player he is," Anderson said. "He is always very difficult to guard and tonight he seemed to be even more assertive. He did a great job of getting rebounds, stick backs and he was putting it in the hole. He finished with seven rebounds for us and he did a great job of getting to the free-throw line."
The Blazers close out their home regular season slate on Wednesday night as DePaul comes calling at Bartow Arena. The contest, slated for a 7:30 p.m. CT tip and scheduled to air on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS), will be the final home regular season game for seniors Donell and Ronell Taylor and Marques Lewis.
The DePaul game can also be heard on the Blazer Sports Network which airs locally in Birmingham on WYDE, 101.1 FM.
