BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's tennis team will head to Memphis, Tenn., to take on three different Conference USA opponents this weekend. The Blazers will take on Saint Louis and DePaul on Saturday before facing Memphis on Sunday.
UAB plays Saint Louis at 9 a.m. on Saturday, before battling DePaul at 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Blazers play Memphis at 9 a.m
"This is our first long weekend," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "We have two matches in one day for the first time this season. This may be the most important stretch of our season. These are important for seeding in the conference tournament later this year. Last season, we lost to two of these teams, but I think we're ready. We've had a good week of practice."
The Blazers improved to 3-2 on the season with a 7-0 win over Birmingham-Southern last week. UAB tallied victories in all three doubles matches, as well as six singles duels. In singles competition, UAB swept through with straight-set wins in all positions. The Blazers' doubles duo of Gulsah Esen and Ornischa Maier-Knapp continued their undefeated season with an 8-2 win at the No. 2 position over the Panthers' Jennifer Williams and Casey Ragsdale. Esen and Maier-Knapp are now 5-0 on the season.
