Blazers On The Road For Game With Southern Miss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's basketball team travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., for the first time in more than two seasons to face Southern Miss on Friday at 7 p.m. UAB, who is currently tied for ninth in Conference USA, plays two games on the road this weekend and is hoping to put itself in position to qualify for the 2005 Conference USA Women's Basketball Tournament. The Blazers will face Tulane on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., in New Orleans.
The Blazers are coming off an important 75-70 win over East Carolina Monday night in Bartow Arena. Lauren Brittingham hit a three-pointer with 13:26 left in the game to give UAB a one-point lead that it never relinquished. UAB is currently being led by Carmen Guzman's 14.0 points and Domaneice Moore's 7.3 rebounds a contest. Crystal McFadden has put up double-digit points in five-straight games for the Blazers.
Southern Miss faced Tulane this past Saturday, with the Golden Eagles taking an 80-73 win at home. Four Southern Miss players tallied double digits, with Shannon Stueber leading all scorers with 27 points. Additionally, Emer Foley had 16 points and 13 rebounds for USM. Southern Miss is now 8-14 overall and 2-7 in conference play. Stueber is the Golden Eagles' leading scorer with 14.5 points, while Foley averages 5.5 boards a contest. Southern Miss is averaging 57.5 points per game on 39.2 percent shooting.
Southern Miss leads the all-time series with UAB, holding a 24-13 advantage. The Blazers won the last meeting, a 71-70 victory on Feb. 22, 2004, in Birmingham. The last time UAB traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss., the Blazers fell, 75-57, to the Golden Eagles.
