LAKELAND, Fla. - Brooke Mangan and Liz (Schweihs) Vander Biezen have earned entry to the 2006 Futures Tour with their play in this week's tour qualifying in Lakeland, Fla. The duo of former UAB women's golf standouts finished 54 holes of qualifying rounds just a single stroke a part and within two strokes of making the cut for the final round of play.
Mangan shot rounds of 75-73-81 for a 229 through 54 holes. Vander Biezen went for rounds of 74-79-77 for a 230. The cut was at 227, meaning both placed in the top 112 golfers in the event. Despite not making the cut, both earned playing privileges on next year's Futures Tour, the official developmental tour for the LPGA.
The four-day qualifying tournament was played on three different courses in the Lakeland, Fla., area. Song-Hee Kim, a Korean amateur, won the event with rounds of 71-66-63-70 for a 72-hole total of 270.
