Brianna Galvin Posts 13 Digs In USA Select Team Win

BRNO, Czech Republic - The USA Select Volleyball Team defeated the Slovakian National Team 25-14, 25-23, 26-28, 28-26, Monday in competition at the 2004 European Spring Cup.
Brianna Galvin of the UAB volleyball team recorded 13 digs in the match. Rachel VanMeter (University of Illinois) recorded 12 kills, Erin Heffner (University of Alabama) added 12 kills and Marin Weidner (University of Wisconsin) posted 11 kills to lead the USA.
The USA Select Team is recognized by the USA Volleyball National Development Program and is part of their National Team pipeline. The tour is organized by Bring It Promotions. The team is participating in the European Spring Cup for the fifth consecutive year. The tournament, which runs until May 16, has a field of 15 other European national teams including, the Czech Republic (A and B Teams), Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Turkey, Denmark, England, Finland, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Sweden.
Turkey won the European Championships last summer and is another threat to this summer's title.
The USA Select Team comprises top collegiate players, including many women that are considered part of the USA Volleyball "pipeline" of potential National Team athletes. Coaching the team are veteran Spring Cup coaches Reed Sunahara (University of Cincinnati head coach), Matt Darling (Auburn University assistant) and former USA National Team coach and player Greg Giovanazzi (University of Maryland-Baltimore County head coach).
