UAB Track and Field Places Third At Troy State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team placed third overall at the 2004 Coach O Invitational hosted by Troy State here on Saturday afternoon, as they finished with 93 points. Genoah Collins took the title in the 800-meters for the Blazers.
Collins won the 800-meters with a time of 2:14.31. Mary Kim Webb finished in seventh, registering a time of 2:24.16. Adie Sander placed 17th (2:30.42), while Adel Anderson finished in 23rd (2:34.07).
The Blazers set two personal bests in the 200-meters. Crystal Hunter was fifth overall running a 24.62, while Shauntae Lockett was 16th registering a time of 25.53.
In the 100-meters, Lockett finished in seventh with a time of 12.32, while Stephanie McCauley placed 20th, finishing the event in 12.60.
Elace Minnifield was third in the 400-meters, with a time of 57.21, while Normanie McKenzie finished in fifth with a time of 58.44.
In the one-mile run, UAB's Emry McKay placed second, registering a time of 5:08.30, a new personal best. In seventh place was Ryanne Fortney, with a time of 5:16.62 and Elizabeth Ambrus finished in 15th with a time of 5:41.81.
UAB had three runners place in the top-six in the 3000-meters. Petra Ivanova finished in fifth, recording a time of 10:16.94, Fortney was sixth at 10:18.08 and Amanda Kara placed in seventh, running the event in 10:18.92. Jennifer Thompson was in 13th (10:45.37), Fortney placed 15th (10:46.21), Ambrus finished in 17th (11:03.12), Anderson was in 24th (11:19.20), Tori Stanfield finished in 32nd (11:35.87) and Elbie Anderson was in 36th (12:01.14).
In the 100-meter hurdles, UAB placed two runners in the top-four of the event. The Blazers' Theresa Smith finished in second with a time of 13.83, while Judy Shepherd placed in fourth, recording a new personal best with a time of 14.32. Erin Harris finished in 10th (16.33) and Adrienne Duke placed 14th (16.51).
In the 400-meter hurdles, Amanda Hart finished fifth overall with a time of 1:05.15, while Duke (1:05.97) and LaDedria Taylor (1:07.1) placed sixth and seventh.
The Blazers' two relay teams placed in the top-six of the 4x100-meter relay. UAB "A" finished in third overall with a time of 47.21, while UAB "B" placed sixth, registering a time of 48.32.
UAB also finished in third and sixth in the 4x400-meter relay. UAB "A" placed third, recording a time of 3:46.60, while UAB "B" finished sixth with a time of 4:00.09.
In the high jump, the Blazers' Shepherd placed sixth with a jump of 5-02.00 and Duke jumped a 5-00.00, finished in seventh.
Harris jumped a distance of 18-10.50 in the long jump, placing third overall, while McCauley finished in 15th with a jump of 15-07.00.
UAB's Shepherd placed second in the triple jump, with a 38-01.75. Penny Shields was fifth (36-10.50) and Erin Harris was ninth overall (35-11.00).
In the shot put, the Blazers' Christy Mixon finished in ninth with a distance of 30-06.00, while Laura Strunk placed tenth with a distance of 28-09.00.
In the javelin throw, Mixon placed third with a throw of 106-02, while Laura Strunk finished in fourth, registering a 105-00.
Mixon finished in third in the shot put with a throw of 119-04.
UAB finished in third behind winner, Troy State, who tallied 128 points, while Southern Miss placed second overall with 95.
