UAB Track and Field Sets Four Personal Bests At Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ----- Four UAB track and field athletes set personal bestst and Elizabeth Ambrus set a new UAB freshman record in the 3000-meters, as the Blazers ran seven distance runners in two events at the Vanderbilt Invitational here Friday night.
Ambrus finished second overall in the event, running a time of 10:08.60. She eclipsed the old mark of 10:16.94, set by Petra Ivanova earlier this season.
Also in the 3000-meters, Amanda Kara finished fourth with a time of 10:21.92. Jennifer Thompson recorded a new personal best with a time of 10:29.54, good for sixth place and Tori Stanfield finished in 13th with a time of 11:40.57.
The Blazers recorded two more personal bests in the 1500-meters, as Ivanova finished in seventh overall with a time of 4:40.67 and Genoah Collins placed 12th with a time of 4:46.49. Additionally, Ryanne Fortney finished in 18th overall with a time of 4:52.50.
"This was a great day for us," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "We accomplished what we came here to do. I'm really excited about all the personal bests. Genoah was running the 1500-meters for the first time in her career and did a great job. It's also great that Elizabeth broke the freshman record. She's been having a great year."
The entire UAB track and field team will compete in the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
