Track and Field Continues To Compete At 2004 Coca-Cola Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- The UAB track and field team turned in another strong performance at the 2004 Coca-Cola Florida Relays on Friday as the Blazers continued to improve their efforts in the outdoor season here at the Percy Beard Track Stadium.
UAB's Teresa Smith placed 10th overall in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles on Friday as the Blazers' junior from Montgomery finished the competition with a time of 13.99. UAB's Joycelyn Shepherd also competed in the event and finished in 32nd place after running a time of 14.87.
In the 400-meter event, the Blazers' Elace Minnifield placed 26th overall with a time of 56.84.
UAB's freshman from Kennesaw, Ga., Amanda Hart, finished the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.59 and placed 30th in the competition.
The Blazers' Genoah Collins and Petra Ivanova both competed in the 800-meter event and finished 17th and 20th, respectively. Collins earned a time of 2:14.87, while Ivanova ended the event in 2:15.29.
In the preliminary round of the 100-meter competition, the Blazers' Oriana Carter registered a time of 12.28 and freshman Stephanie McCauley finished in 12.35. Carter, UAB's freshman from Birmingham, placed 24th in the event, while Carter took the 31st position.
The UAB track and field team will continue to compete in the 2004 Coca-Cola Florida Relays on Saturday as the Blazers compete in a number of field and relay events here in Gainesville, Fla.
