BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB track and field team ventures east to South Carolina this weekend to participate in the Tiger Invitational on the campus of Clemson University.
Competition will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in the new, state of the art, Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex. The new facility is equipped with a 200-meter flat Mondo Super-X Performance track that is considered fast and could provide an opportunity for many of the Blazers to post season-best times.
UAB will find one of the strongest fields it has faced this week as the Blazers will see some of the Atlantic Coast Conference's best athletes from Georgia Tech, Florida State and the host Tigers. UAB coach Ray Stanfield feels like this meet will provide a good barometer of where the team stands heading into the Conference USA Championships at the end of the month.
"We're not going to have the girls compete in as many events this week like we would during training," he said. "Two weeks out from the conference championships we're now going to concentrate on running our fastest times."
The Blazers come into the meet after having a week off following a successful showing at the Appalachian State Invitational where the team posted 11 top 10 performances including Elizabeth Ambrus' win in the 3000-meter run.
