UAB Baseball Inks Three More Recruits

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB head baseball coach Larry Giangrosso announced Thursday the signing of three players who will join the Blazers for the 2006 season. Zac Kennedy, Kyle Roberson and Mitch Thorn are the final three players to sign National Letters of Intent to play at UAB, bringing Giangrosso's recruiting class total for this year to ten.
Kennedy will be t he first second-generation player of the modern era at UAB. His father, Gerald, played for UAB from 1991-92 and was part of Blazers' squad which won a school-record 43 games and captured the Great Midwest Conference Championship during the `92 season. Kennedy is a Charlotte, N.C. native, where he is coached by Hal Bagwell at South Mecklenburg High School. The son of Gerald and Nicki, Kennedy is listed as a six-foot, 175 pound shortstop and outfielder.
Roberson, the son of Robey and Joni, attends Clay-Chalkville High School in Trussville, Ala. where he plays for coach Jeff Mauldin. Robertson is a 6'2, 195 pound right-handed pitcher.
Thorn is a 6'1, 200 pound right-handed pitcher from Wetumpka, Ala. He played for Ray Mullino at Wetumpka High School before attending Lurleen B. Wallace Community College where he is coached by Steve Helms. Thorn is the son of Kevin and Susanne Trest.
"We've really met some of our immediate needs with this recruiting class," said Giangrosso. "We really like the balance we're getting between high school and junior college players. And most importantly, we're very excited about the athleticism of this group as a whole."
