STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. - Brooke Mangan's even par-72 Monday has the UAB senior in a tied for second place overall at the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate women's golf tournament hosted by Georgia State. UAB stands in third place out of 11 squads competing as a team and has three Blazers in the top 10 individually.
"We did great today," UAB head coach Kim Wilcox said. "We're coming right along and I'm very proud of the effort. The more rounds we play, the better we get and that's a good sign. We're right in the thick of things in this tournament and that's all I can ask for at this point."
In addition to Mangan, junior Janey Deimling's three-over 75 is tied for seventh overall and sophomore Martha Hudson is tied for 10th place after an opening round 76. Elizabeth Schweihs (79) and Kelli Cassidy (85) also carded for the Blazers.
UAB's team score of 302 is just a shot behind Campbell and eight strokes from leader and host Georgia State. The Blazers stand three shots ahead of Yale and also lead Middle Tennessee and Central Florida, among others, in the 11-team field.
