TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ----- Junior Liz Schweihs fired a two-round score of 157 (77-80) to lead the UAB women's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the University of Alabama/Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate. The Lady Blazers shot a team score of 649 (321-328) in the tournament, which was shortened to two rounds after Monday's round was postponed due to heavy rain.
Schweihs' opening round of 77 tied her career-low round, set last season at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic. Senior Brooke Mangan finished just behind Schweihs, firing a 160 (77-83) to finish in a tie for 21st overall. Sophomore Janey Deimling finished in a tie for 33rd with a 165 (83-82), while Martha Hudson (84-83/167) and Katie Kane (85-88/173) finished in ties for 33rd and 51st, respectively.
Florida State captured the Intercollegiate championship with rounds of 306 and 304 to finish with a 610, six strokes ahead of its closest rival, Ole Miss (302-314/616). LSU fired a 617 (305-311) to place third overall, while tournament host Alabama (302-320/622) and Jacksonville State (334-310/644) rounded out the top five.
The Lady Blazers will next be in action when they compete at the Beacon Woods Invitational on Oct. 10-12 in Tampa, Fla.
