BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB's 2003 football game at Legion Field with Southern Mississippi has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 4 and will be televised nationally by ESPN. Gametime will be announced at a later date.
The contest had originally been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6.
This will be the first-ever Thursday ESPN national telecast for the Blazers, who moved to NCAA Division I-A status beginning with the 1996 season. UAB appeared on ESPN2 in its contest at Florida State during the 2001 campaign.
"We are extremely excited about the opportunity to be on ESPN and to play Southern Miss in front of a national television audience," said UAB director of athletics and head football coach Watson Brown. "To play our conference rival, Southern Miss, on a national stage and be the only game is great for our program and great for our conference."
UAB opens its 2003 season Saturday, Aug. 30 when the Blazers travel to Waco, Texas to meet Baylor.
