Women's Tennis Falls To No. 23 Alabama, 6-0

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team (8-5, 2-1) had its three-match win steak snapped as it fell to No. 23 Alabama, 6-0, here Saturday afternoon.
"We were defeated by a much stronger team today," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "Our team played well, but we had some tough matchups and couldn't pull through. Alabama is a talented team."
The Crimson Tide took the doubles point by winning all three matches by a score of 8-5. In the No. 1 match, Alabama's Robin Stephenson and Stefanie Leung defeated Blazers Natascha Immele and Nadia Dellarciprete. At the No. 2 position, UAB's Femke de Boer and Ornischa Maier-Knapp fell to the Crimson Tide's Sophie Cremers and Ashley Bentley. Nathalie Koppelle and Melissa Minor of Alabama teamed up to defeat Blazers Julia Hoch and Yvonne Ernst in the No. 3 tilt.
In singles play, Alabama took all five completed matches. In the No. 1 slot, the Crimson Tide's Cremers beat UAB's Immele, 6-1, 6-1. Blazer de Boer lost to Alabama's Stephenson, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. UA's Marie-France Lord-Andrade defeated UAB's Ernst, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 3 match. In No. 5 tilt, Blazer Hoch fell to Alabama's Minor, 6-3, 6-1. In the No. 6 match, UA's Natalie McElveen was victorious over Blazer Dellarciprete, 6-2, 6-1.
The No. 4 match between UAB's Maier-Knapp and Alabama's Koppelle was stopped.
Next, UAB travels to Atlanta to take on Georgia State on Sunday, March 23, at 9 a.m.
