Women's Golf Finishes Second At Southern Shootout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's golf team finished second overall at the Southern Shootout here at Greystone Country Club on Tuesday after shooting 340 in the second round.
UAB shot a two-round score of 674 to finish 32 strokes behind winner Jacksonville State, who shot a 642 on the par-72, 5,807-yard Founders Course. The Blazers finished four strokes ahead of third-place finisher Troy State.
It was a good first effort," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "Everyone has to work around the rough edges and battle the cold weather. I think this is a good way to start the season and I look forward to building on this."
UAB's Brooke Mangan finished second overall after shooting a 158 for the tournament. Mangan shot a 77 in the first round and an 81 in the second round. She finished just three strokes behind winner Angie Green of JSU.
Jenni Elmore of UAB tied for 13th, after shooting a 168 over the two days. In round one, Elmore shot a round of 85, but improved to tally an 83 in the second round.
The other Blazers competing were Liz Schweihs, who tied for 21st with a 174, Janey Deimling who also tied for 21st with a 174 and Katie Kane who finished 54th with a 186 in the shootout.
Next, UAB travels to Charleston, S.C., to compete in the College of Charleston Intercollegiate.
