Lady Blazers Finish Eighth At FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. ----- The UAB women's golf team concluded the 2003 fall campaign with an eighth-place finish here at the FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational. The Lady Blazers finished play with a three-day score of 971 (328-323-320).
Junior Brooke Mangan led the Lady Blazers during the tournament, carding a 19-over par 235 (78-81-76) to finish on a tie for 11th overall. Junior Liz Schweihs placed in a tie for 23rd, with a 244 (80-82-82) on the par 72, 6,084-yard Doral golf course. Senior Katie Kane finished in a tie for 30th with a 248 (92-74-82), while sophomore Janey Deimling (78-86-87/251) and freshman Martha Hudson (97-96-80/273) finished in 39th and 65th, respectively.
Despite a final-round rally by Princeton, who shot a weekend best round 305 on the final 18 holes, tournament host Florida International withstood the challenge to pick up the team title with a 941. The Tigers finished three strokes back with a 944 to place second. Florida Southern finished third with a 950, followed by Longwood University (954) and Illinois (960).
Winning in a playoff, Longwood sophomore Stephanie Hicks defeated Natalia Navarro of Florida Atlantic to capture the individual title.
This tournament completes the Lady Blazers fall season. UAB will next be in action when they return to Miami, Fla. to open the spring season at the FIU Golden Panther Invitational on Feb. 3-5, 2004.
