Volleyball Falls To Alabama At Bartow Arena

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama (4-0, 0-0 Southeastern Conference) extended its winning streak to four matches, defeating UAB (0-4, 0-0 Conference USA) 3-0 Tuesday evening in volleyball action at Bartow Arena.
Alabama used a pair of 4-0 runs midway through game one to pull ahead and take the first game 30-18.
In game two, with the score at 6-4 in favor of the Crimson Tide, Alabama used a 4-0 run to go up 10-4. UAB got the next point, but Alabama proceeded to win the next five points and go on top 15-5. The Tide never looked back from there, winning the game 30-21.
The third game was a much more even battle that showcased 16 ties and eight lead changes. With Alabama leading 19-18, UAB used a 6-0 run to go on top 24-19. Alabama used a 6-0 run of its own to close the gap to 27-26. After a back and forth battle down the final stretch, Alabama was able to seal a 32-30 win to clinch the match.
Junior outside hitter Martina Shields had 14 kills to lead the Blazers. Junior setter Kilee Goetz added 26 assists to go along with five kills and a .571 hitting percentage for UAB.
Junior right side hitter Jennifer Bibber led the match in kills, posting 16 for Alabama to go along with a .556 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Kenna Milner added 21 assists for the Crimson Tide.
UAB returns to Bartow Arena to host the UAB Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Blazers face Tennessee State Friday at 2 p.m. and take on in-state rival Troy State at 6 p.m. UAB closes the tournament Saturday against East Tennessee State at 11 a.m.
