Volleyball Team Falls To Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - UAB (5-11, 0-1 Conference USA) fell to Southern Miss (9-7, 1-0 C-USA) 31-29, 20-30, 30-19, 30-25 in Conference USA volleyball action Friday evening at the Payne Center.

Junior outside hitter Martina Shields posted her fourth double-double of the season, as she had 17 kills and 20 digs to lead UAB. Senior right side hitter Kristi Lee recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs and senior middle blocker Allison Magner had 14 kills and eight total blocks for the Blazers. Senior Dina Katsoulis added 47 assists for UAB.

"I thought we had some phenomenal hitting performances tonight," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "We just need more consistent setting now that we have entered C-USA play. This was a very frustrating loss. We must now regroup and prepare for our matches against Charlotte and East Carolina next weekend."

UAB returns to Bartow Arena Friday to take on C-USA rival Charlotte at 7:30 p.m.
