BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The women's soccer team fell to 3-3-1 as they lost to Alabama on Friday night in Tuscaloosa, Ala., 3-2. The Blazers got on the board first on a goal by Adrienne Suffridge in the 10th minute of the match, but could not hold on in the game's final minutes. The come-from-behind victory was the first for the Tide (6-1) in 62 matches dating back to a come from behind win against then No. 22 Vanderbilt at the beginning of the 1999 season.
"We weren't focusing the whole match," said head coach Paul Harbin. "It felt as though we were filling holes the entire game. I didn't think we played with much focus or determination."
The Blazers held the 1-0 lead until the 74th minute, when Dawn Nash centered the ball to Katie French for the game-tying goal. Just over a minute later, the Tide struck again on a Missy Keller direct kick off a UAB foul. Nash was there to head the ball past Lisa Nowoslawski for the 2-1 goal. Three minutes and 15 seconds later, Alabama drew another foul inside the box. French took the penalty kick and converted it into her second goal of the contest.
The Blazers didn't give up, as Tara Kidwell knocked in a loose ball as time expired to make the final score, 3-2.
UAB next match is versus St. Louis on Sunday, September 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. at West Campus Field.
