HONOLULU, Hawaii-----The UAB women's soccer team had to settle on a draw against Hawaii after two hard fought overtimes in the OHANA Hotels & Resorts No Ka Oi, Friday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The Blazers scored first at the 27:32 mark when sophomore Jenny Rynders (Marietta, Ga.) deflected Briana McCarty's free kick from 45 yards into the net, 1-0.
With 10:33 left in regulation, Hawaii's freshman Natasha Kai scored from a rebound past UAB goalie Lisa Nowoslawski (Melbourne, Fla.), 1-1.
The Blazers outshot Hawaii 6-1 in overtime but could not find the back of the net.
?I was very pleased that we held them to one goal,? said head coach Paul Harbin. ?Hawaii is a very athletic team. I think they have a chance to be a nationally-ranked team.?
?We need to concentrate more on the final pass and finishing the play,? added Harbin. ?We are not as focused as we need to be on our final passes and finishing. The good thing is that it is still early in the season.?
The action will continue tonight as the Blazers face Wyoming at 7:00.
