BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team completed its lone workout of the day here Thursday in 93-degree heat and 60-percent humidity. The weather, however, did not take too much of a toll on the Blazers.
"I thought the kids fought through the heat conditions well today," UAB head coach Watson Brown said. "It was really hot out there and they battled through it just fine. The good news is we did not have any injuries even though it was a very physical practice."
In preparation for the first scrimmage of the season on Friday, the Blazers concentrated on offense versus defense drills. Brown was not too pleased with the inconsistencies the team showed throughout practice.
"We put them through some hard work and we had a lot of inconsistencies today," said Brown. "We had one drill where the offense would take it to the defense and the next drill the defense would stick it to the offense. We need to get a little more consistent out on the field, but that will come with time."
UAB will have just one practice on Friday afternoon when they scrimmage for the first time this season. The scrimmage will begin at 4:45 p.m. on the UAB practice field.
The Blazers will open their 2002 season in Gainesville, Fla. against the nationally-ranked Florida Gators on August 31, with kickoff slated for 5 p.m. CT. SportsChannel Florida will televise the contest on a pay-per-view basis. The game will also air on a taped delay basis through the Sunshine Network.
