UCONN Defeats UAB In Game One Of Baseball Double-Header

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Jon Robinson's pinch-hit single in the top of the eighth inning drove in two runs and gave Connecticut the lead for good as the Huskies (2-4) rallied to defeat UAB 4-3 in game one of a rain-delayed double-header Saturday afternoon at Young Memorial Field.
UAB (5-8) led 3-1 entering the eighth, but the Huskies loaded the bases with one out as right fielder Brett Burnham drew a walk off UAB starter Joe Yarbrough and first baseman Peter Soteropoulos singled.
After righthander
Connecticut reliever Mike James retired the Blazers in order in the bottom of the ninth to earn his second save of the season. Reliever Bob Barton (1-0) worked one and 1/3 innings to get the win, facing four batters and allowing no runs on one hit.
Huskie starter Patrick Sperone worked six and 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.
Yarbrough worked seven and 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, with three walks and four strikeouts. Falls (2-1) worked one and 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.
Game two was scheduled to start at approximately 7:20 pm CST.
