Women's Golf Hosts Third Annual Lady Blazer Invitational

Birmingham, Ala. - The UAB women's golf team is gearing up for their only home event of the season as they play host to the third annual Lady Blazer Invitational at Inverness Country Club in Birmingham March 25-26.
Last season saw the event reduced to one round due to heavy rains and thunderstorms. Arkansas State claimed team honors with 310, while the Indians Leigh Ann Jones fired a 74 to capture individual honors.
UAB finished third in the event, just four strokes out of top spot with 314. Four Blazers finished in the top-20 at the event. Heather Lourie was the highest finisher for the Blazers, coming in tied for fifth with a one-round score of 77.
Emily Hendricks carded a 78 for a share of 10th place, while Christina Gushanas tied for 16th with 79. Jenni Elmore rounded out the top-20 finishers with 80 and a share of 19th place. Tying for 55th, Petra Hallberg shot 89 to finish out the Blazer squad.
The Blazer Intercollegiate Field: UAB is joined by Troy State, Cincinnati, Arkansas State, Mercer, South Alabama, Samford, Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Montevallo, Tennessee Tech, Northern Iowa, Birmingham-Southern, Lipscomb, and Evansville in the 15-team field.
The Golf Course: The tournament will be held at the Inverness Country Club. The course is par 72 and 5,979 yards.
Schedule of Events: The teams will play a practice round on Sunday, March 24 at various times. The first round of play will consist of 18 holes on Monday, March 25, with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m. on both the first and tenth tees. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday, March 26 with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. The awards ceremony will immediately follow the final round.
Spectators are welcome and the event is free.
