UAB Cross Country Finishes 13th At Conference USA Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ----- The UAB cross country team finished 13th here Saturday in the Conference USA Championships held on the campus of Southern Miss.
Marquette won the women's race, its third consecutive league title, with 29 points while South Florida (48) was second and DePaul (103) third. DePaul junior Erin Moffett won the individual championship as she crossed the finish line at 20:54.68.
Leading the Blazers on the 6K course was junior Amanda Kara in 29th place with a time of 23:13.16. Kara has led UAB in every meet this year. Kara beat her previous time in the 6K (23:25) at the UAH Invitational earlier this year.
Rounding out the Blazers who finished with 349 points as a team were Emily Scarbrough in 74th place with a time of 24:44.43, Heather Burdette in 86th place with a time of 25:33.52, Rina Kara in 90th place with a time of 26:01.42 and Donna Pucke in 92nd place with a time of 26:31.35.
Scarbrough and Rina Kara both beat their previous times at the UAH Invitational where they were 25:15 and 26:14, respectively.
Burdette received the Commissioner's Academic Medal, given to team members with a GPA above 3.8, at the banquet held for the participants on Friday night.
The Blazers will run at the NCAA Regionals in Knoxville, Tenn. on November 16.
