Volleyball Team Tops Middle Tennessee 3-2

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - UAB (7-12, 1-2 Conference USA) defeated Middle Tennessee (10-8, 1-3 Sun Belt) 24-30, 30-13, 24-30, 30-27, 15-9 in volleyball action this evening at Alumni Gym.
For the 14th match this season, junior outside hitter Martina Shields posted double digits in kills, recording 19 to go along with nine digs and a .304 hitting percentage for UAB. Senior setter Dina Katsoulis recorded her third double-double of the season with 51 assists and 10 digs to go along with three total blocks for the Blazers. Senior right hitter Kristi Lee added 15 kills and nine digs, while senior middle blocker Allison Magner recorded nine kills, 16 digs and five total blocks for UAB.
"It was a strong performance for us tonight," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "We had a great performance in a hostile environment. The team responded well to the environment. They stayed disciplined and focused. We needed this type of performance as we now head into our match with Tulane this weekend."
Sophomore outside hitter KeKe Deckard had 15 kills and 19 digs to lead Middle Tennessee. Sophomore setter Kelly Cannon also posted a double-double for the Blue Raiders, as she had 42 assists and 11 digs.
UAB next travels to New Orleans to face Conference USA rival Tulane Saturday at 7 p.m.
