MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The UAB cross country team finished seventh out of 14 teams here today at the Rhodes Invitational. The Blazers were able to outrun Conference USA foe, University of Memphis, who placed eighth, making this the first time in two years the team has beaten another team in the conference.
The Blazers were once again led by junior Amanda Kara who finished in second place overall with a time of 18:59. This is the first time Kara has run the 5K in under 19 minutes, a personal best for her.
UAB finished behind UAH, Rhodes, Birmingham-Southern, Central Arkansas, Ouachita Baptist and University of the South-Sewanee in the team standings.
Rounding out the Blazers' individual standings were Heather Burdett (26th), Rina Kara (43rd), and Donna Pucke (54th). Newcomer Kristen Lunn made her first cross country appearance ever placing 77th.
The Blazers will take next week off in preparation for the Auburn Inviational in Auburn, Ala. on October 19.
