MEMPHIS, Tenn.-----The UAB women's soccer team (7-8-1, 4-4-0 C-USA) fell to Memphis (7-7-1, 3-4-3), 1-0 on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn. The Blazers had their chances, but couldn't find the back of the net.
"We were a little flat in the first half, but played much better in the second half," said head coach Paul Harbin. "We had possession a good bit of the time, but we couldn't put the ball away. We had two or three opportunities, but were unable to make the final pass and put the ball in the net."
The game was a defensive battle with both teams holding each other scoreless until the 77th minute, when UAB was called for a foul. Susannah Wells' free kick bounced off the crossbar, but Kirsty Marr was there to put the rebound in the back of the net for the game's lone goal.
The Blazers got off 14 shots, including three shots on goal by Tara Kidwell. Memphis goalie Katarina Wicksell had five saves in the shutout.
UAB next hosts Jackson State at noon on Friday, October 25, at West Campus Field.
