Volleyball Wins First Two Matches At Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The UAB volleyball team (5-1, 0-0 Conference USA) opened play at the Hurricane Invitational Friday by defeating Long Island 3-0 and Wofford 3-1.
In the first match of the day, UAB defeated Long Island (1-5) 30-22, 30-25, 30-12. Senior outside hitter Shelly Greene (Bend, Ore.) led the Blazers with 13 kills and freshman setter Jessica Liptak (Carol Stream, Ill,) had 17 assists.
In the second match, UAB defeated Wofford (5-2) 32-30, 30-28, 30-26, 31-29. Sophomore outside hitter Martina Shields (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) had 18 kils and 15 digs , Greene had 14 kills and 16 digs and Liptak had 70 assists.
UAB will play Miami, Sat. at 9 a.m. in the final match of the tournament.
