Volleyball Tops Middle Tennessee 3-1 In Home Opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After falling behind 1-0, UAB (3-1) roared back to take a 3-1 decision over Middle Tennessee (2-3) 19-30, 30-26, 30-24, 30-27 in volleyball action at Bartow Arena this evening.
The Blazers had good leads in their wins in games two and three, but finished off game four after a back and forth battle with the Lady Raiders.
Senior outside hitter Shelly Greene led the Blazers with 16 kills and 21 digs and freshman setter Jessica Liptak added 43 assists. Sophomore middle blocker Karen Boyd had 12 kills and 13 digs and junior middle blocker/outside hitter Allison Magner contributed 10 kills, hit for .304 and had nine digs.
The Lady Raiders were led by sophomore outside hitter Shakeithia Deckard, who had 18 kills, hit for .341 and had 18 digs. Junior outside hitter Katie Thiesen added nine kills and five total blocks and junior setter Kelly Quinn posted 23 assists.
UAB next travels to Coral Gables, Fla. for the Hurricane Invitational Friday-Saturday. Friday, the Blazers meet Long Island at 4 p.m. (ET) and then square off against Wofford at 8 p.m. (ET). Saturday, UAB will face Miami at 10 a.m. (ET).
