Track And Field Finish Third At Troy State Invitational

TROY, Ala. - The UAB women's track and field team placed third of eight teams at the Troy State Invitational in Troy, Ala. on Saturday. The Blazers placed in the top ten in all six events they competed in at the one day event.
The Blazers started off the day placing second in the 4x400-meter relay finishing with a time of 4:08.28.
In the 800-meter run, four Blazers placed in the top ten. Carla Kelly finished second in the event with a time of 2:19.87. Edna Caraballo of Troy State finished first in the event, running a time of 2:17.04. Also for UAB, Karen Werner (2:20.71) finished third, Christie Caywood (2:33.47) finished ninth and Donna Pucke (2:33.64) finished 10th.
Pucke and Cara Bates both placed in the 1500-meter event for the Blazers. Pucke finished fourth, running a time of 5:00.10 while teammate Bates ran the event in a time of 5:53.90, finishing in eighth place.
Andrea Burdett placed second in the 3000-meter run with time of 10:53.09, just 6.33 seconds back of winner Alice McGough of Samford (10:47.42). Blazer Amanda Kara finished third in the event with a time of 11:02.18.
In the field events, Laura Strunk placed in two events. In the shot put, Strunk finished sixth, throwing a distance of 32'00.75" while in the discus throw she threw 89'05.00", putting her in fourth place.
The Blazers compete again next weekend in two events, the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. on April 13-14 and the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. on April 4.
