UAB'S GEORGE FINISHES SIXTH AT PENN RELAYS
UAB high jumper Meredith George finished sixth in her heat at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
George finished with a height of 5-feet, 5-inches. Three others also cleared the 5'5" height, but George was able to earn the higher place due to fewer misses.
There were 21 competitors in her heat, 13 finished with no-height. Overall, George had the 18th best jump of 54 jumpers.
The height was five inches shorter than her career best. However, it was the first time she had jumped in competition in three weeks due to injury.
Erica DiStefana of the College of New Jersey won the heat with a jump of 5' 5.75". Jenny Isgren of Conference USA member Tulane was fifth, ahead of George by one-inch at 5'6".
In the championship heat Harvard's Dory Gyorffy finished first at 6'3.25".
