The UAB women's tennis squad picked up its tenth-straight win Wednesday, routing Eastern Michigan 6-1. In all ten matches this season, the Blazers have only given up a total of nine points to opponents on five different teams. The Blazers have won four matches with perfect 7-0 scores.
Though Eastern Michigan won the doubles point, UAB came back to snag all six singles matches.
"The girls played unbelievable today," said head coach Mert Ertunga .
Senior Mirela Vladulescu defeated Rebecca Hawkins 6-4, 6-0, while sophomore Monika Schmid defeated Simone Duhme 7-5, 7-6 at no. 1 and no. 2 singles, respectively. Despite the two singles wins by the veterans, the pair lost their first doubles match of the season 8-5 to Hawkins and Lisa D'Amelio .
Up next, UAB takes on C-USA opponent Southern Miss on Saturday, Mar. 10 as they play their fourth-straight match in a five-game homestand. The Blazers then take on 61st-ranked MTSU on Sunday, Mar. 11 to complete the homestand. Both matches are set for 11:00 a.m. at the Brook Highland Racquet Club. Admission is free to both matches.
