UAB Baseball Shuts Out Tennessee Tech

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Left fielder Mitch Jones and center fielder Christian Reimers each drove in a run and pitchers Joe McRae and Joe Yarbrough allowed no runs on four hits as UAB recorded its first shutout of the 2001 season.
The Blazers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as Reimers reached on a fielder's choice with one out, stole second, and scored on Jones' RBI single up the middle.
UAB scored again in the fifth as Garner reached on an error by Tennessee Tech third baseman Mark Gilliam, advanced to second on a wild pitch by Golden Eagle starter Josh Shoulders, and scored as Reimers singled to center field.
UAB starter McRae (1-0) worked five complete innings, allowing only two hits, walking one and striking out three.?? Yarbrough came on for the final four innings, also allowing two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.
Shoulders (1-2) worked eight complete innings, allowing two runs on three hits, with one walk and five strikeouts.
