The 75th-ranked UAB women's tennis team improved its record to 4-0 after a three-match sweep on the road. The Blazers travelled to Chicago to take on DePaul, Chicago-Illinois (#73) and Louisville.
Friday saw the Blazers take on Conference USA opponent DePaul in their toughest match of the weekend. Getting their momentum up quickly, UAB started the match by capturing the doubles point, winning all three matches. In singles, UAB took three of the six matches for three points and a narrow 4-3 win.
On Saturday, the Blazers went head-to-head with the 73rd ranked Illinois-Chicago Flames. Thirteenth-ranked Mirela Vladulescu of UAB won her third straight match defeating Nicole Derouin 6-4, 6-4 at no. 1 singles. Sixty-eighth ranked Monika Schmid of UAB defeted Ayca Gumuscu 6-0, 6-2 at no. 2 singles to win her third straight match. UAB defeated the Flames 6-1, winning all three doubles matches to take one point and five of the six singles matches to take five points.
The third match had the Blazers competing against Conference USA opponent Louisville. Vladulescu, Schmid and Margaux Melsheimer all won their singles matches to improve thier records to 4-0. UAB went on to easily defeat Louisville 7-0.
The Blazers will compete again on Feb. 17-18 as they travel to Orlando, Fla. to take on Central Florida and Florida Atlantic.
