Track And Field Wins Two Events At Fred Wilt Invite

The UAB women's track and field team continued their indoor season as they travelled to Purdue on Saturday, Feb. 17 to compete in the Fred Wilt Invitational. The three-team event included Illinois, UAB and host Purdue competing for the title.
The Blazers took first place in two events and finished strong in three other events.
In the 400-meter run, sophomore Donna Pucke placed first with a time of 59.67.
In the high jump, junior Meredith George won the event with conference leading jump of 5'7.75". With this jump, George surpassed Alexis McGaffigan of South Florida (5'07.00").
In the shot put, sophomore Dina Katsoulis placed fifth in the event throwing a new school record of 35'9.5". Katsoulis broke a nine-year school record of 35'3.75" set in 1992 by Cadetric Walker.
In the 60-meter dash, senior Yolanda Cooper placed second with a season best time of 7.54. Cooper also placed fourth in the long jump.
Despite UAB coming on strong in five events, the team placed third in the event claiming 48 points. Purdue captured the title with 134 points, with Illinois claiming second with 90 points.
UAB will continue its season as the Blazers head to Houston, Texas to compete in the Conference USA Championships on Feb. 23-24.
