HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Deanna Jackson scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the UAB Lady Blazers swept the season series over the Southern Miss Lady Eagles, 64-51, Friday night.
UAB shot 59 percent from the floor in the second half, outscoring the Lady Eagles 46-24 in the second period. UAB trailed 27-18 at the half after shooting just 20 percent, making 7-of-35 shots in the first half.
The Lady Blazers have won three in a row and four of the last five. The win keeps UAB in fourth place overall in C-USA and keeps them in line for a first round bye in the conference tournament.
It was the 10th time in the last 11 games the Lady Blazers had trailed at the half. It was the fifth time in that stretch they have come back to win.
Lady Blazer freshman Natasha Thomas also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. It was the fourth time in the last seven games Thomas and Jackson have recorded double-doubles in the same game.
Jackson, the nation's second leading scorer, scored 15 of her points in the second half, making 6-of-12 shots. She made just 4-of-16 in the first half. She also had three steals.
The Lady Blazers led by just four at 50-46 with 3:54 left in the game when Thomas converted a three-point play to start a 14-5 run to end the game.
Mia Thrash added 11 points and led UAB with six assists. Sally Jeter dished out five assists as UAB recorded 16 assists on its 26 field goals.
Victoria Mason led USM with 12 points. Jessica Woods has 10 points and nine rebounds and Jessica Woods added 11 points.
