Men's Soccer Wins Fifth Straight, 2-1 Over Louisville

Birmingham, ALABAMA - Flavio Monteiro scored in his first match in three weeks as No. 8 UAB (9-1, 4-0) won its fifth straight match, defeating Louisville (3-6-1, 0-3-1) 2-1 in Conference USA play Friday night at UAB.
Monteiro has been bothered by a broken hand, and an injured hamstring. He scored in the 36th minute, after entering the game in the 23rd minute. Monteiro took a pass from Nnamdi Ngwe and scored on the left side of the goal.
That score game UAB a 1-0 lead at the half. Ngwe struck to give UAB a 2-0 lead at the 54:30 mark with an assist from Nelson Mata.
Louisville cut the score to 2-1 just 45 seconds later when Richard Pell scored on a header off a corner kick.
The Blazers were able to hold on thanks to the play of goalkeeper Clint Baumstark. The freshman recorded six saves, including two in the final 10 minutes of the match.
UAB outshot Louisville 11-8. Louisville goalkeeper Jeremy Morales had two saves, all in the first half.
UAB has not lost in six home matches this season and 14 straight. They have not lost at home in 21 straight regular season matches.
The Blazers host 13th ranked Furman, Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at West Campus Field. Furman is the last team to beat UAB in Birmingham in the regular season.
