Head Coach Trent Dilfer named Tee Mitchell as UAB’s new nickels coach in March of 2025. Mitchell is in his first year with the Blazers.
Mitchell comes to Birmingham after most recently spending the 2024 season as the Defensive Coordinator/Secondary Coach at Division II Edward Waters University and guided his unit to the top ranked pass defense in the league which included 20 takeaways and 10 interceptions.
Prior to that, Mitchell coached in the NFL for two years (2022-23) with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a Defensive Quality Control Coach. In 2022, Mitchell helped guide former UAB All-American Darious Williams to 16 pass breakups, which was the fourth most in the NFL that year. In 2023, he worked with OLB Josh Allen who set the franchise record for single season sacks (17.5).
In 2021, Mitchell was an offensive analyst at Duke working with wide receivers, and in 2020 was the West Georgia defensive backs coach. He started his coaching career as a scouting assistant for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019.
Mitchell is Mercer University’s all-time leading rusher with 2,660 yards over his career from 2014-19. He also holds the school record for career all-purpose yards (2,432 yards) and was the program’s first ever Capital One Academic All-America First Team recipient in 2015. Mitchell was a three-time All-SoCon honoree.
Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Marketing from Mercer in 2019.
