Rafael Rondino enters his first season as assistant coach for the UAB men’s tennis team.
Rondino started playing tennis when he was 10 years old. At the age of 13, he ranked No. 1 in the Brazil U18 for nearly two years.
Rondino played more than 50 professional tournaments in the future level and 4 Challenger, which is the level above beating two top 300 in the world (Juan-Pablo Villar from Argentina and Leornardo Kirche from Brazil).
Rondino reached as high as 1,200 in the professional ranking. At 19 years old, Rondino came to the US and played two years for Auburn University mainly at 4,5, and 6 positions in his freshman year. Rondino posed an 11-13 record (5-3 SEC) in singles and 12-11 in doubles playing at 3. As a sophomore he had a 14-7 record in doubles before transferring to UAB for his junior season.
At UAB, Rondino posted a 9-3 singles mark in the Fall 2012 and a 12-7 singles record in the Spring. In doubles play, he was 16-12 for both semesters. As a senior, Rondino had a 9-5 singles record in the Fall 2013, and a 12-8 in the Spring, while boasting a 21-6 doubles record for the year.
