Stepan Vancurik enters his third season as the graduate assistant coach for the UAB men’s tennis team after serving as a volunteer assistant coach from 2016-17.
Vancurik played for UAB from 2014-16, representing the Blazers in all three doubles positions as well as singles positions 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Vancurik was part of the team when it was ranked No. 69 his sophomore year and No. 74 his senior year. He was recognized on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll during his playing days, as well as being named an ITA Scholar-Athlete. Vancurik was a member of the team when it advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament before falling to eventual champion Rice in 2016. He graduated from UAB in 2017 with bachelors' and graduate degrees in electrical and computer engineering and is currently seeking a graduate doctorate degree in computer engineering at the university.
