Harrison Roberts enters his first season as an assistant coach with the UAB men's soccer program in 2026.
Roberts arrives in Birmingham after spending seven seasons at West Alabama, where he served three years as a graduate assistant before being promoted to assistant coach for three seasons then associate head coach in 2025. During his tenure, the Tigers made four postseason appearances. In 2023, Roberts helped guide West Alabama to an 8-2-6 record and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. The eight victories marked the program's highest win total since 2017.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Roberts spent two seasons (2023-24) as an assistant coach with the South Carolina United Bantams of USL League Two. During the 2023 campaign, the Bantams posted a 10-1-1 record and advanced to the USL League Two National Tournament.
Before transitioning into coaching, Roberts enjoyed a successful playing career with the South Carolina United Bantams from 2016-21. In 2019, he was recognized as one of the top 40 players in USL League Two and earned All-Southern Conference honors.
A standout student-athlete at West Alabama, Roberts appeared in 75 career matches, recording 40 points on 12 goals and 16 assists. He earned All-Gulf South Conference honors three times and was twice named to the GSC All-Tournament Team. As a freshman in 2015, Roberts was named the Gulf South Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player after helping lead the Tigers to the conference championship.
In 2020, Roberts was recognized as one of the league's premier players of the decade, earning selection to the Gulf South Conference All-Decade Second Team.
During his playing career, West Alabama captured three Gulf South Conference Tournament championships and two regular-season titles. Roberts helped the Tigers reach the NCAA Tournament for the first two times in program history and was part of the program's first NCAA Tournament victory in 2017, a 5-1 win over Tampa.
Prior to coming to the United States, Roberts trained in the professional academies of Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Morecambe FC in England, where he was a member of Morecambe's U-23 reserve squad.
Roberts holds both UEFA C and USSF C coaching licenses and has earned an Advanced Goalkeeping Diploma from United Soccer Coaches and USC Goalkeeping Level 3. He also completed a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport and Coaching from Lancaster & Morecambe College in England.ย
Roberts earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from West Alabama in 2019 before completing his master's degree in sports management in 2021.
