Ryan Heisey was named the UAB men’s golf assistant coach on Dec., 7, 2020 and just completed his first full spring with the Blazers.
One of the nation’s top young assistants, Heisey helped lead the Blazers to a 24th place finish at NCAA Nationals, which marked UAB’s fifth best finish in program history. It was UAB’s 13th appearance at NCAA Regionals and eighth at NCAA Nationals.
On the way to Nationals, Heisey helped engineer one of the most memorable moments in UAB history during the final round at the NCAA Noblesville Regional. Entering the round in eighth place and 11 strokes outside of the cutline for Nationals, the Blazers shot 13 under par to erase the deficit and claim the fifth and final spot for a berth into Nationals from the Noblesville Regional.
With Heisey's assistance, Nick Robillard earned Conference USA Golfer of the Year, while Drew Mathers and Khavish Varadan were named Second Team All-Conference USA.
Heisey joined the Blazers after spending the last two seasons as the assistant coach at Chattanooga.
Prior to Chattanooga, Heisey spent one season as a volunteer assistant at his Alma Mater, UNC Greensboro. In his one season with the Spartans, he helped lead UNCG to the 2018 Southern Conference title and a berth into NCAA Regionals at Pacific University.
Heisey turned pro in 2014 and made 41 career starts playing on the PGA’s Latin America and Mackenzie (Canada) tours.
A native of New Bern, N.C., Heisey graduated from UNC Greensboro in 2010 with a degree in Tourism Management. He is engaged to his fiancé Jillian Idle.
