Austin Cody is in his third year with the UAB men's golf program. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach on Feb. 6, 2020.
Since his arrival at UAB, the Blazers have carried on their tremendous success, which included cracking the Top 25 on Oct. 16, 2019, its highest ranking since 2013.
In Cody’s first year, he helped the Blazers finish first in stroke play at the Conference USA Championship. R.J. Keur would then go on to represent the Blazers in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.
Cody has also been instrumental in the development of William Walker III, who is in his senior year in 2020 and was a First Team All-Conference USA Selection in 2019. Walker III currently owns a 70.2 season stroke average entering Spring competition, and for his career has a 72.74 stroke average.
In Cody’s two+ year at UAB, the Blazers have earned three All-Conference USA accolades, which includes two First Team selections (Keur, 2018, Walker III, 2019) and one All-Freshman honoree (John Snoddy, 2019).
Cody is a 2014 graduate of Duke University where he was a four year letterwinner on the men’s golf team (2010-2014). He quickly made his mark with the Blue Devils as a freshman, posting a 5-1-1 record in match play in the Callaway Collegiate, reaching the semifinals of the NCAA Championship in the process. He followed up his opening campaign with two wins on the Amateur circuit in the Summer of 2011.
In 115 total rounds, Cody notched 22 under-par showings and picked up 14 career top-20 finishes. His best individual performance came in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate when he finished in second place, helping Duke to a first place team finish. Additionally, he was an integral member of the 2013 Blue Devils team that won the ACC championship.
Also impressive in the classroom, Cody was a three-time ACC All-Academic team honoree, majoring in sociology and minoring in markets and management studies.
Cody had an illustrious prep and junior career. He was a standout at Pinewood Preparatory, where he was named the region player of the year five consecutive seasons and was a seven-time all-state selection. Additionally, he was selected the Lowcountry Golfer of the Year on four occasions. On the junior circuit, he was a two-time South Carolina Golf Association junior champion and amassed 18 championships over the duration of his junior golf career.
The son of Quince and Billie Cody, he has a younger sister, Blair. The Cody’s are natives of North Charleston, S.C.
